Since 1929, more than 18,000 matches have been made between people who are blind and specially bred and trained Seeing Eye® dogs. Seeing Eye dog handlers come to New Jersey from all over the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico to be matched with a Seeing Eye dog and experience greatly enhanced mobility and independence, allowing them to retain their active lifestyles despite blindness. In 2020, the Seeing Eye® dog was recognized as the official state dog of New Jersey. The Seeing Eye is a 501(c)3 non-profit supported by contributions from individuals, corporations and foundations, bequests, and other planned gifts. The Seeing Eye is a trademarked name and can only be used to describe the dogs bred and trained at the school’s facilities in Morristown, N.J.
